What is Can’t Stop the Serenity?*

Can’t Stop the Serenity (CSTS) is a unique opportunity to indulge your geeky side while doing some good! Since 2006, fans have organized screenings of Joss Whedon’s Serenity to raise funds and awareness to support Equality Now in their work for the protection and promotion of the human rights of women around the world. Join us as we aim to misbehave for a good cause!

“There are two ways to fight a battle like ours. One is to whisper in the ear of the masses, try subtlely and gradually to change the gender expectations and mythic structures of our culture. That’s me. The other is to step up and confront the thousands of atrocities that are taking place around the world on an immediate, one-by-one basis. That’s a great deal harder, and that’s Equality Now. It’s not about politics; it’s about basic human decency.”

         – Joss Whedon

Since their inception in 2006, CSTS events have included over 100 cities in 10 countries, and have raised more than $1,200,000 for Equality Now and other charities. The North Texas Browncoats are proud to be celebrating our twelfth annual CSTS season with some of the most passionate, loyal, and dedicated fans in the ‘verse.

“Shepherd Book used to tell me, ‘If you can’t do something smart, do something right.'”

Can’t Stop the Serenity provides a rare opportunity to do something that’s both right and smart, not to mention fun. The world is changing at a staggering pace, and yet nearly half the human race still lives in some degree of fear or servitude toward the other half. Join us for a shindig while supporting the fight for a better world. Join Equality Now in the mission to educate and protect women and girls everywhere; to free them from the shadow of fear and misogyny that blights the landscape of their lives; to let them spread their wings…

…and watch how they soar.
